Art Walk September 9th and 10th 2006

Artists by nature choose freedom in life,simply by having chosen an art career. Art is the journey of a free soul. Whatever puts a constraint, kills art. I make my compositions but I never feel obliged to follow them completely. There must be room for the muse while the artist is at work. The best part is ending up with a creation that was not intended.? Surprises are the joy of living and directly touch the soul. Good surprises energize and bad surprises

Art is a healing tool . . . .

aspirations to life, and it validates us beyond what anyone else can do for us. When we are angry or hurting, it gives us a safety net for getting our emotions out and helps us to really "see" what we are feeling inside. When it is not, we are given a direction to explore further. Art levels souls and baffles brains. Art is a form of love for me. Art is a road, there are no wrong turnings. Art is like singing, some do it better than others, but everyone can and should be doing it for their soul and is the ultimate gift. Living and painting are always works in progress, and I am grateful for the opportunity to live as an artist on the threshold of the unknown.

Painting on Yupo I suggest that you not try to paint in the manner you are familiar with. The YUPO experience is to let go. Cut paper into size your comfortable with, although the larger the paper the looser the outcome. The conventional way of glazing with watermedia wont work on YUPO paper, as there is no tooth to it. Load the brush with water and dark watercolour paint in vivid colours, as you use your whole body to move as you let the paint take shape, run and create a display of mingling colours and forms. Forget everything you know about painting and play with it. I am still amazed at the mystery of this synthetic paper and the amount of pleasure I get from it.
